When my grandma broke her hip (& pic of why i need strong bones)

I have vivid memories of the few times my parents went on trips and my grandmother came to take care of my sister and me.

It was always fun - she loved to break the rules!

She fed us lots of canned whipped cream (on just about everything, including our hands!) and let us stay up late playing checkers and telling ghost stories, even on school nights.

Decades later, when so many people her age were moving into retirement homes and assisted living, my sassy independent grandma moved from the city to a little house on a cul-de-sac way out in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey.  She LOVED it out there.

Then one night she slipped on the ice while getting her mail.

She broke her hip, went to the hospital, was moved to a nursing home... and never recovered enough to go home.

I wish my kiddo had gotten to meet his great grandmother!

I'm planning on many more adventures with my son, and if he has kids, I want to adventure with them too.

I need strong bones for this future!

Fortunately, no broken bones - whew!

But here's the scary truth - past age 50, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will have osteoporotic fractures.  It's a major cause of mortality worldwide!
