The good, the bad and the... um... surprisingly not so ugly!
Happy July!
This month has been full of fun adventures for my family… and we’re feeling great because we’re taking pretty good care of our bellies, even on the road!
(Well... mostly.)
Like last weekend, where the festival we were at had so many amazing stands selling gluten free, dairy free and full-of-veggies dishes!
We fed our happy gut microbes their favorite food (vegetables!) all weekend long!
Because my little boy loves veggies
he was delighted!
Because I LOVE a break from meal prep
I was delighted!
YAHOO!!!
When someone else cooks, I get inspired, so I had to share these with you:
Nori wraps with avocado and sauces
Coconut wraps with cauliflower rice and coleslaw
Rice wrap with veggies, rice noodles and nectarine!
Falafel salad with tahini sauce
And who can resist a gluten free, dairy free Luna and Larry's Coconut Bliss ice-cream sandwich dipped in chocolate? (see here for ingredients)
Fun food, right?!?
But... I don’t have a picture of the fruity drinks we got on our way out on that hot, hot Sunday afternoon. We were all thirsty, kind of dehydrated, the cups were full of ice, and I thought they were unsweetened pureed watermelon with fresh squeezed lemon.
Oops.
These were actually sugary lemonades with a little watermelon mixed in… a bona-fide processed sugar mega-storm!
And I didn’t have the heart (or the energy) to pop that sugary bubble. I had a few sips, ate all the ice, and hoped for the best.
I thought for sure I’d be half-way home, trapped in traffic with a cranky and/or wailing family meltdown and no escape hatch.
But it went the other way.
My family was laughing like a bunch of lunatics! ALL the way home!
Want to know why?
When you feed candida sugar (their favorite food) they make ethanol. That’s alcohol!
My family was drunk from those crazy sweet juices!
Candida also makes acetaldehyde, the toxin responsible for “hangover” symptoms. So although my family was laughing, I knew that our bodies were filling with candida’s toxic metabolic wastes, and that we'd all have a lot of extra work to do filtering out, mopping up, and recovering.
Ouch.
What’s my point?
1. I’m not perfect! (and never will be)
2. Bodies recover! (so let’s get back to supporting them)
Why am I telling you all this?
Because I support you in being gentle with yourself when you veer off course from your gut health goals with your kids.
Keep up your good work!
You’re doing great, you know what to do, and every single little thing you do for your child MATTERS.
So YES! Keep up your wonderful, imperfect work in healing and nurturing your child's gut. You truly are giving them more health and happiness, in just the way that fits your life right now!
And I’m right here with you, with plenty of "whoops!" and recoveries.
Have a great (imperfect) weekend!
Love,
Elissa
