Fermenting at home - while getting ready for a day of camp?!?
We are deep in a sunny Seattle summer!
For me, that means enjoying the weather, the adventures, the long evenings out chatting and playing in the neighborhood, swimming at the beach and the pool, and of course - the lush & colorful bounty of the farmers markets!
The cabbages are BIG and JUICY!
I’ve been making sauerkraut.
In fact
my little boy and I
packed a jar this morning
before camp!
Check out my Facebook live to see how we did it.
Raw, unpasteurized sauerkraut - naturally fermented cabbage - is delicious, safe and fun to make!
It’s easy.
It’s so healthy it’s almost ridiculous.
And you can do it with your child too!
All it takes is some cabbage, a jar, and a little salt.
Seriously!
You can buy raw, unpasteurized sauerkraut at the store, but it’s pretty expensive, and you have to watch out for the companies that do their fermenting or packaging in plastic (if you want to avoid feeding your family those plastic-based endocrine disrupters).
Want to save tons of money, choose the freshest organic produce, and ferment in glass jars right on your own countertop?
Think your child might like to help you?
You sound like a Gut Health Mama!
In case you haven’t seen the video, I’ll just tell you - my little boy loves to make kraut!
He mixes the shredded cabbage and salt, and eats lots of raw cabbage.
Since cabbage is full of:
- vitamin C
- antioxidants
- sulfuric compounds that support detoxification
- fiber that supports the digestive tract
- and so much more
…I’m thrilled to have his “help.”
Can you tell I totally love fermenting?!?
Of course, I love eating fermented veggies and providing them for my family. We eat fermented vegetables nearly every day of the year, and at most meals!
(You don’t have to eat much to support great gut health and whole health - just a forkful a day is plenty!)
I love that these beautiful, beneficial little fermenting bacteria are willing to:
- make the nutrients in our veggies easier for children to absorb
- help kids digest their food
- nurture and heal their gut lining
- support their brighter attitudes
- balance in their immune systems
- and more!
OK, maybe I’m romanticizing things a bit… these little microbes are “willing” to do this for us because they just love eating vegetables!
And because eating fermented vegetables is so important to children’s health(there are a few exceptions), I’m delighted to teach you how to easily make ferments for your family.
You might think you’re too busy, and I get that.
I know you’re super-busy!
And I can honestly say that making your own kraut is:
- quick
- easy
- affordable
- super-safe
Maybe you've taken cooking or nutrition classes before and left that great information on a shelf (or in your hard drive) gathering dust… I’ve done it too, and it feels terrible.
That’s why this year, I’m teaching just a few simple, practical ferments over ten months.
We'll make each ferment several times and the materials are presented with the flexibility that makes sense for a busy mom… so you have plenty of time to watch the demonstration, review the recipe, check in with other participating mamas and/or ask me questions in our live coaching sessions. (You can also send questions in ahead if you can't be there live - they're all recorded.)
This program is
generously paced and super-supported
so you'll never feel overwhelmed!
You'll steadily gain confidence and mastery so you can make these delicious, nutritious ferments for your family.
(In fact, you'll become masterful at using all four of the Healthy Gut Happy Child principles in exactly the way that serves your family best!)
What’s more, I’ll guide you in exactly how to help your family fall in love with (and even crave!) your home-made ferments!
(YES! Even your child secretly wants to eat fermented veggies!)
So…
if you’re dabbling in fermentation but worried about safety
if you’re desperate to get your kids eating probiotic food to heal their gut
if you look at the jars of sauerkraut on every grocery trip but cringe at the price
if you’re really want to ferment but can’t imagine fitting it into your crazy busy life
…stay tuned!
Something AMAZING is in the works for YOU!
With love and big, juicy cabbages,
Elissa
