Heal Your Lungs and Gut with Fruit
Did you know - pectin is a natural fiber in fruits that can ease constipation!
Before school starts, my son & I are enjoying our last summer days together and a neighborhood dripping with fruit.
I have a kitchen full of apples, grapes, plums, blackberries, and even persimmons!
The dehydrator's humming.
My saucepans are cooking.
I've been doing some research on pectin for constipation relief, and WOW!
Pectin is plentiful in skins of apple, pear, persimmon and especially citrus.
Natural pectin feeds the beneficial gut bugs that heal, nourish and protect your gut AND LUNGS.
When your kid goes back to school, you want their lungs to be full of the "good" bacteria to keep those coughs and colds away!
One study I read fed the "test" participants 6 apples' worth of pectin per day (24 grams) for 4 weeks and cleared up constipation. (1)
Don't worry - you don't have to eat 6 apples per day!
Try these:
--> Eat more carrots! A medium carrot has 2 grams pectin (the most in any vegetable).
--> Eat lots of different veggies for their unique fibers & polyphenols, and some pectin-rich fruit with their peels.
--> Have fun garnishing your meals with citrus zest - and then eat it! Citrus peel is 20-30% pectin :)
--> Make a simple simmered peels-on apple sauce with grated orange peel, lots of cinnamon, and a dash of powdered cloves. Serve warm, drizzled with some cool coconut milk and enjoy! (scroll down for pics - it's so simple!)
--> Add a high-quality Modified Citrus Pectin to your smoothies!
Pectasol by Econugenics is one of my favorites:

Here's how I make orange-spiced super-pectin apple sauce:
Use any spices you want! Simmer til apple skins are shiny & orange peels disintegrate - enjoy :)
So...
How will you add pectin to your diet to for your gut and lungs?
